The double ‘V” butt weld shown in the sketch is the second strongest type of weld for joining two pieces of
sheet plastic. It is used principally in work that can be welded from both sides of the sheet.
In preparation for the weld, the sheets are beveled to a 600 included angle on both sides of one edge of
each sheet. This beveling may be accomplished by a planing, filing, sanding, or sawing operation. To
insure complete penetration of the weld, a root gap of approximately 1/32 to 1/64 of an inch is maintained
between the two sheets prior to tacking. All beveled edges should be overlapped.
