Dalí is clearly showing here one of the most artificial and
abstract preoccupations of man: anguish over controlling time
in accordance with the time shown by clocks and watches. The
passing of time, and its relativity and fluidity, are concepts
raised and widely interpreted by the authors who have written
about this painting.
