Our analysis shows that care ethics theory can help explain what is needed to make the intervention successful.
It makes clear that the protocol should be applied with an open eye to the situation. Moreover, it
shows that the first phase of care is essential to the care process. For nurses who are trained to intervene,
this step is not always easy. To successfully go through the first phase of care, a nurse should have the virtue
of being attentive, which means being present and open, rather than being active. After this, the other phases
of care can and should be addressed.
