shows the impact of solvent variation in the CL apparatus on the extract composition. The greatest number of unequivocally identified compounds was found in the n-pentane extract , followed by toluene and butyronitrile. On the basis of these results, n-pentane, used in the Likens– Nickerson apparatus, was confirmed as the most appropriate solvent for SDE. In the Likens–Nickerson apparatus, the steam condensate does not percolate the total amount of solvent, so polar substances are not washed back into the water. This allows better extraction of hydrophilic compounds into the organic solvent.
