As the production process was fully observed and commercial wine spirit employed, the authors refrained from conducting analyses for alcohol denaturants, such as diethyl phthalate or inorganic contaminants. Additionally, a quantitative analysis was conducted for nicotine (see below), as well as commissioned analyses for several tobacco specific contaminants (e.g. polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH)) at an external commercial laboratory accredited according to ISO 17025 (US EPA, 2007).
