The main objective of this thesis has been to contribute to a review, and to the
enhancement of the forest valuation industry’s knowledge base (see Chapter 1.2, p. 3).
Whether this objective could be met with this thesis, or not, largely depends on whether it
can motivate practitioners and academics with a relation to forest valuation to contribute,
for their part, to the creation of new knowledge, or to the integration of relevant
knowledge into the knowledge base of the forest valuation community. Hopefully, the
theoretical assessment of the 22 topics in the deduction, the empirical results of the survey
in the induction, the 28 propositions presented in the abduction, as well as the final
recommendations to different groups of decision-makers presented in this final
concluding part, may all serve as a basis for further research activities in different
branches of science as well as for the corresponding knowledge acquisition and
knowledge management activities in practice.
A comprehensive knowledge base of the forest valuation industry is not an end in
itself, but a prerequisite, for example, for successfully allocating new capital into the
forest sector. Forest valuations are an indispensable element for preparing transactions of
forest assets, and for providing a reliable basis for the measurement of their performance.
Thus, the forest valuation industry, seen from a knowledge-based view, will certainly play
a pivotal role for a prospering forest sector in the future.
