McLeod et al.3 have
calculated that the likelihood of DTC is three times greater
for a subject with a serum TSH level of 4 mU/L than for
a subject with a serum TSH level of 0 mU/L. The correlation
of TSH with DTC risk has recently been verified for
pediatric patients as well.4 Moreover, TSH levels have also
been associated with a more advanced stage of DTC.5---7 It
has therefore been proposed that serum TSH measurement
could be used to help to predict the likelihood of thyroid
cancer in patients with NTD.
