Weld seams on one side of each plat

Weld seams on one side of each plate were clearly visible. No cracks were visible after cleaning the plates with acetone. The plates were ground flat to facilitate radiographic examination. Both plates were checked for internal cracks. Several branched cracks in the weld and HAZ of the longer plate were reported. These cracks were parallel to the weld and branched severely into the base metal.
