In every criminal case, the government is required to prove the identity of the person who committed the crime. To support a conviction, the government must present evidence that the defendant was the perpetrator or a party to the perpetration of the charged crime. This is generally provided by an in-court identification of the accused; however, it can also be inferred from other evidence.
