The concentrations of fatty acids in serum have been reported to
be altered in various diseases, including diabetes [5] and depressive
disorder [6]. In particular, PUFA levels have been found to be correlated
with symptoms or severity of neurological disorders, such
as Alzheimer’s-type dementia [7] and schizophrenia [8]. Additionally,
the beneficial effects of fatty acid supplementation have been
studied in patients with neurological disorders, such as depression
[9,10], bipolar disorders [11], and chronic epilepsy [12], in several
