Do you think its wrong spending tho

Do you think its wrong spending thousands of money on pets?
I am writing an essay & think that its okay for a pet owner to spend as much money on their pet because owning a pet comes with responsibility & decisions. Why should someone else even be concerned with anyone elses spending?
People argue that money should be spent on more important things.. But what if your pet is what keeps you alive & happy?/vice versa
Of course we dont know truly, what animals want for themselves .. And thats the tricky part.

I want to know opinions :)

My stepsister had a guinea pig that her biological father bought for her when she was 6. He died a couple of years ago but the guinea pig he bought her lives on.

Last year it had an accident and its eye was injured and my Dad had two options: pay a grand to have its eye removed or have it put down.

He spent the money preserving that animal that was this young girls' link to her dead father.

I wouldnt call it a waste because of the significance to her.

I understand most people would just see a dumb animal, but to her it means the world because of the love and symbolism of her late father.

I think in her case it was money well spent.
