IB HL Mathematics
IB HL Mathematics is a two-year course which requires six class hours per week. The curriculum is driven by the IBO which mainly covers the main units of algebra, functions and equations, trigonometry, matrices, statistics and probability, calculus and vectors. An optional topic is also required to be completed in the second year of the program which is series and differential equations. This course caters for students with a good background in mathematics who are competent in a range of analytical and technical skills. The majority of these students are expected to include mathematics as a major component of their university studies, either as a subject in its own right or within courses such as physics, engineering, and technology. Others may take this subject because they have a strong interest in mathematics and enjoy meeting its challenges and engage in solving problems. The assessment of the course is similar to other math courses but also includes the internal assessment portfolio tasks (type 1 investigation and type 2 modeling) as a part of the in-class activities. Students are also familiarized with IB exams and questions during the two years of study.
As of 2012-2013, grade 11 Mathematics HL course will be on the new IB curriculum and new internal assessment named Mathematical Exploration.
