You watched from the doorway to the lilac coloured nursery, your husband was by the wooden crib with your baby daughter in his arms. She had been acting up all day and when it was time for her to sleep, she simply couldn’t. You were worn out but you couldn’t sleep from her cries ringing out through the house. You leaned against the doorframe with your arms folded and smiled at the sight of your family.
“C’mon Bandit, please go to sleep. Mommy and daddy are exhausted!” Gerard groaned tiredly, just as worn out as you were.
“Try singing a lullaby to her.” You suggested, he looked at you with tired eyes but nodded before cradling his baby girl and started to sing in his angelic voice.
“A gentle breeze from Hushabye Mountain
Softly blows over Lullaby Bay
It fills the sails of boats that are waiting
Waiting, to sail your worries away.”
Bandit ceased most of her cries and gazed up at her daddy, his gentle and care-free smile caused her to lift her hands up to reach to him. Her small fists clasping and unclasping.
“It isn’t far to Hushabye Mountain
And your boat waits down by the key
The winds of night, so softly are sighing
Soon they will fly your troubles to sea.”
You, as well as Bandit, was hypnotised by his luscious voice. You smiled and felt yourself starting to drift away as his voice dulled your senses.
“So close your eyes on Hushabye Mountain
Wave goodbye, to cares of the day
And watch your boat from Hushabye Mountain
Sail far away from Lullaby Bay.”
Bandit’s cries stopped as her innocent big eyes started to close until they were fully closed. Her little hands stopped reaching up to him. Gerard beamed, filled with pride as he gently rocked the baby to sleep and finished the lullaby in a voice barely above a whisper.
“So close your eyes on Hushaby Mountain
Wave goodbye, to cares of the day
And watch your boat from Hushabye Mountain
Sail far away from Lullaby Bay~”
Gerard finished the lullaby, and with tender love he placed Bandit in her crib and let her sleep. He went over to you, wrapped his arms around your waist and kissed your lips. He softly swept you off your feet and carried you to bed in bridal style, you peacefully fell asleep in his warm embrace.
