In 2007-2008, the number of U.S. college students undertaking study abroad reached 262,416F more than three times the number of Americans who travelled overseas for academic credit 20 years ago (Open Doors, 2009). As a result, an increasing number of stakeholders in education and government are seeking information and policy advice regarding the planning of study abroad learning, particularly in the present environment of intense administrative focus on institutional accountability, return on investment, and well-articulated learning outcomes.
