The above amounts of immobilized (100 g) and free yeast cells (4.9 g), after freeze-drying, were used to ferment 300 ml of synthetic media with various concen-trations of glucose or maltose (80, 100, and 140 g/l) in 500 ml glass cylinders without agitation. The total volume in the bioreactor was 400 ml in the case of immobilized cells.
