GEOTECHNICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL INVESTIGATIONS
As part of the studies for evaluation of contamination and foundation conditions, particularly in the anodization (old and new) and extrusion buildings, an extensive geotechnical and environmental investigation was carried out, involving:
- geophysical testing using electroresistivity methods including electric vertical soundings and collinear arrangements (Schlumberger array)
-auger and percussion borings down to about 20 m deep with collection of soil and water samples for laboratory chemical analyses. Special procedures were used for boring ,sampling and sample storage according to appropriate environmental standards;
- chemical analyses for the detection of acid and basic contaminants on selected soil samples at different depths and in water samples;
- oedometer tests on undisturbed samples collected at 2,0 m depth with the following conditions:
- at natural water content
- submerged in water at a vertical stress of 50 kPa
- submerged in acid and basic fluids (similar to those used in the industrial process) at the same vertical stress, followed by percolation with the same fluids for 24 hrs.
- chemical and mineralogical analyses of the soil samples tested in the oedometer as well as of the percolated fluids.
