In this case, assume that the two biorefineries only process
switchgrass with total yield of 1,600,000 dry tons/year; thus, it is
reduced to a single commodity problem. The optimal solution generated
by the present model shows that all of the switchgrass is used and the two biorefineries are open, producing 144 million gallons
of biofuel and yielding a total profit of 30 million dollars and a
unit profit of $0.21/gallon. Fig. 2 shows the dry tons of switchgrass
processed in each biorefinery in each month. During the non-harvesting
season and 1–2 months before that, the biorefineries have
to reduce their productions due to the lack of switchgrass supply.
