Aeon is generally seen by Japanese consumers as the leading retailer in terms of sustainability and CSR
policies. This image actually coincides with reality, in terms of the number of policies and resources
assigned to these practices. Nevertheless, the ambitious goal established by Aeon to reduce CO
2
emissions by close to two billion tonnes in five years, is at the moment just that: an objective. However,
as we have seen, the targets set forth in the 2008 Manifesto are built on existing sustainability and CSR
policies, which in most instances have been carried out for several years with significant impact.
