Satun Naitonal Meseum (Kuden Mansion) is a white two-storey mansion in the Colonial architectural style. It is over 100 years old. The doors and the windows are arched in the style of European architecture. The roofs are in the style of Thai hip roofs, paved with tiles in the form of banana leaf sheath. The windows are made of small pieces of wood, constructed as horizontal louver sheets. The top ventilation voids are decorated with stars in the style of Islam architecture. The Museum is located on Satun Thani Road, Soi 5. It was built in 1898 by Phraya Bhuminat Bhakdi or Tuanku Baharud Dinbin Tamma-ngong (his former name: Kuden Bindkumae), a governor under the reign of King Rama V. This mansion was built as a throne of His Majesty the King for official administration, not for overnight stays.
The building was once the City Hall of Satun. It is a beautiful representation of the City of Satun and has diversely served as an important governmental office such as the Municipality Office, Maung District Office of Satun, Municipal School and the Office of Internal Security Operations Command in Satun Province.
In 1997 – 2000, the government established the building as Satun National Museum, under the supervision of the Fine Arts Department and the Ministry of Culture, and renovated this Kuden Mansion to be the national museum of Satun to keep antiques and to conserve the arts and cultures for public displays as well as field trips and recreations. The Museum is also a local pride and an attraction for travelers and tourists. Inside Satun National Museum (Kuden Mansion), you can find exhibitions of Satun history, arts, cultures and lifestyles.
