Lee’s visa was expiring soon so he went on a visa run to Malaysia to renew it, and I went looking for my next adventure. I met quite a few nice people at Ao Nang Hostel (a great value at 150 baht/night) and was told of a nearby beach called Ton Sai. I wiki travel-ed (great travel resource!) Ton Sai and read about the world class rock climbing, the budget accommodation, and the laid back environment. It sounded perfect. I traveled to the pier with a few other travelers. I mention this only to share the couple of minutes I spent carrying (like a bride) the 6’2″ 180 lb guy from Uruguay from shore to longtail boat because he recently injured his toe in a scooter accident and did not want to get his bandage wet. That was a funny moment. The 100 Baht ($3.20) boat ride last 10 minutes. The Ton Sai beach was about half a mile long and was something quite beautiful to see at low tide. I found the hotel I was recommended and was happy to spend the 200 Baht ($6.44) for my own private bungalow. Traveling in low season is risky because you may find yourself rained out sometimes, but it can be worth the risk when you find sunny skies and low ball prices. The next day and a half were spent exploring Ton Sai, Reilay beach (another world renowned rock climbers paradise), and Phranang Beach/Cave, all within walking distance from each other. It was on Ton Sai where I also uploaded my first video update sitting up on a small cliff about 30 or so feet off the ground. It was amazingly peaceful and I very much wished I had a book with me. The perfect relaxation spot.
