Such solutions do not require new or additional funding, but they do require that existing resources are used in a more strategic, solution-focused way. To end homelessness, we have to do three things:
1) Prevent as many people as possible from becoming homeless.
2) Provide those who become homeless with high-quality shelter and health services that are focused on returning people to housing.
3) Make housing options available that allow people to return to independence and stability.
With these things done, the homeless camps at the courthouse, on Third Street and along the river will gradually disappear as their current and future occupants instead find their way into housing. ■
